At Trolley Hospitality Companies, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact through practical, high-impact initiatives. By implementing energy-efficient technology, waste reduction programs, and strategic partnerships, we are actively working to make our operations more sustainable.
Harnessing Solar Power for Smarter Transportation
To improve the efficiency of our fleet, we’ve installed solar panels on our refrigerated trucks, helping to recharge their batteries and reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources. While these panels don’t fully replace diesel power, they provide supplemental energy, leading to a measurable reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.
Switching to Energy-Efficient LED Lighting
Lighting accounts for a significant portion of a facility’s energy use. By transitioning to 100% LED lighting across all of our locations, we’ve reduced our lighting-related energy consumption by 60%. LEDs use at least 75% less energy than traditional bulbs and last up to 25 times longer, making them a key part of our energy-saving strategy.
Eliminating Plastic Waste with Bevi Water Machines
Single-use plastics are a major source of environmental waste. By installing Bevi water machines in our offices and facilities, we’ve helped prevent 1,435,685 plastic bottles from ending up in landfills, providing a sustainable hydration solution for employees and guests.
Cardboard Recycling & Waste Reduction
Packaging waste is a challenge in any business, but we’ve taken steps to minimize our impact. Through our cardboard recycling program, we have successfully diverted 52.21 tons (104,420 pounds) of recycled material from landfills, ensuring that our packaging waste is properly processed for reuse.
Composting Food Waste with NopeVA
Food waste is a leading contributor to landfill methane emissions. Through our partnership with NopeVA, Groovin’ Gourmets has diverted 6,638 pounds of food scraps and organic material from landfills in 2025. Instead of contributing to waste, these scraps are turned into nutrient-rich compost that enriches Virginia’s soils.
Impact:
Recycling Excellence with International Paper
We are proud to have received the Recycling Excellence Award 2024 from International Paper in recognition of our responsible recycling efforts. Our 52.21 tons of recycled material contribute to a greener future by reducing landfill waste.
